A little thank you from the pupils to all of our wonderful volunteers who participated in the Eco Day last week - what a great success!

Team work makes the dream work! Thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers who helped out at the school's Eco Day today. Each and every pupil at the school was given the opportunity to make their own bird feeder to take home to feed the birds in their garden. It was a very messy, very fun day and one that will be remembered!
Thank you to everyone who has collected and brought into school their yogurt pots and other single use containers ahead of Eco Day next Monday. They will now be given a second job as part of our bird feeders and will then be washed and recycled. A great example of how we can turn single use plastics into multi-use plastics.
🍁 🍂 🍃 what a beautiful sunny surprise everyone got to enjoy today! Thanks to our wonderful volunteers today, Alex May and Liv, we had a jam packed afternoon of gardening and wildlife.
Year 2 enjoyed a pond dipping session where we found our first ever adult newt in the pond! We think it was a female palmate newt but will be sending the photos off to the Farnham Biodiversity Partnership who are keen to hear about any amphibions we find on site. The children were also fascinated by a dragonfly nymph which we found and which Athena kindly showed around with some very gentle handling. 👏 Donnie spotted a very cool water louse and Jenson found a lovely shiny beetle which was too small to see other than through a magnifying glass. Great job guys! Wow! 🤩🤩 The whole of Year 6 put in some seriously hard graft today under the guidance of volunteer Amanda Thain and her green fingers. The strawberry planter was filled and planted up and the final raised bed finished and planted with spring cabbages. Sincere apologies for any muddy clothing - they were all a little more enthusiastic than we had anticipated and really got stuck in. Well done Year 6! 👏
Year 6 will be joining us this week to get the strawberry bed planted up. If you would like to join and lend a pair of hands please let Sarah or Flora know. Thank you! 🍓 🍓 🍓
We would like to give a big shout out and “well done” to Athena in Year 2, our first Nature Detective for October! 👏
Athena and her mum spotted this beautiful Eurasian Jay (known as Jays here in the U.K.) and managed to grab some photos which was good going given how shy Jays typically are. ⭐️ Athena’s cool fact is that Jays are skilful mimics of other birds and animals. When threatened, they are likely to imitate the calls of tawny owls, sparrowhawks and even domestic cats. ⭐️ Well done Athena - a certificate will be winging its way to you at the end of the month! 👏 All good gardens have a resident Robin and the Busy Bees garden is no exception. And it’s no wonder, the school grounds are currently brimming with food from the huge number of native trees and hedges we are lucky enough to have on site - the hawthorn, Rowan tree, holly and blackthorn are all full of berries and Reggie the Robin and the blackbirds are loving it! There are some pretty funky caterpillars around as well at the moment - we think we found a Pale Tussock moth caterpillar today which feeds on hawthorn and blackthorn - he’s picked the right spot!
