About Rowledge Primary School's garden and the Busy Bees Gardening & Wildlife Club
The school garden at Rowledge C of E Primary School and the "Busy Bees Gardening & Wildlife Club" which it hosts is run by parent volunteers and is supported by the Friends of Rowledge School (FORS) charity which was established to further the education of pupils at the school. The Club welcomes external volunteers from the local community who may wish to volunteer in the garden on either a regular or one-off basis.
The Busy Bees team and pupils are proud to have achieved Level 3 of the RHS School Gardening Awards for the work undertaken in the garden. The Busy Bees Club runs out of the school garden and takes place during school hours so that all children can attend and participate in Club activities either in full class, smaller group or 1:1 sessions. This way the Club is able to include all children at the school in its activities which include maintaining and enhancing the dedicated school vegetable garden, enhancing the school grounds through the planting and maintenance of dedicated planters and maintaining and enhancing the school’s enclosed wildlife pond area. The Club is entirely self funded with the help of the Friends of Rowledge School (FORS) charity as well as grants and donations from external providers and individuals.
The Club's principle aims are to encourage people to:
- learn the joy of growing their own food;
- understand, appreciate and care for wildlife;
- learn how to re-use and repurpose everyday items; and
- garden for themselves and wildlife in harmony.
The Club has been the recipient of numerous donations and grants from local and national organisations and individuals, all of whom are helping to facilitate the important work undertaken by the Club. These include grants and donations from:
- Binsted Parish Council (July 2022)
- Coomers Timber and Building Supplies (May 2022)
- The Friends of Rowledge School charity
- The Farnham Lions Club (January 2022)
- The Farnham Round Table (Nov 2021)
- The Royal Horticultural Society and its Connected Communities project (January 2022)
- East Hampshire District Councillor David Ashcroft (January 2022)
